Stuck in a Rut?

“When we come to the place where everything can be predicted and nobody expects anything unusual from God, we are in a rut.”
– “Rut, Rot, or Revival,” by AW Tozer

I have to wonder… have you gotten into a rut when it comes to Sunday worship? How does Tozer’s statement hit you? I wonder this about my own heart. Have I gotten into a rut and ceased expecting God to answer? Oh Lord, tell me the answer!

It can be so easy to slip into a rhythm where we expect little from the Lord, we just go through the motions week after week. If that is happening, I wonder why? Perhaps it points to a number of possibilities:
  • A lack of prayer for God to move and bring conviction and repentance to us?
  • Maybe we’re just too busy to even consider His moving us?
  • Perhaps we have become too lazy, letting busyness in the trivial dictate our agendas?
  • Or maybe we just haven’t worshipped throughout the week, so why would we think it would just magically happen on a Sunday?

If we slowed down enough and asked Him, I am sure He will answer this prayer.
I wonder… what would it look like for each of us to come on Sunday mornings prayerful, and ready for Him to move upon us? I wonder… what would it look like for God to answer?
I wonder…

Let’s pray!

Held By His Abundant Grace,

Pastor John
