A Defining Time for Summit Ridge

I have been thinking seriously about a few passages of Scripture about discipleship. (Matthew 28:19-20; Colossians 1:28-29; 2:6-8; Acts 2:42; 1 Thessalonians 5:11, 14; Ephesians 4:12–16) These are words of God to His people to go and make disciples, to proclaim Christ, to encourage one another, to warn, comfort, and help one another. To summarize these, they are all about discipleship – following Jesus and helping others follow Him.

God has not left us to figure out life on our own, nor are we to live life alone. But He has given us His Word to be lived out in the context of relationships. I have been considering how it is to be lived out here at Summit Ridge. We have been considering these things as elders and staff as well. I am excited about where the Lord is taking us on this journey to define our discipleship process. We want to be obedient to His Word, we want to live it out in our lives as a church. And everyone who is a part of Summit is a critical part of fulfilling what He has said.

I want to invite you to join us next Sunday, June 4th, for one of our services where I will be able to articulate how the Lord is leading us in our call to disciple and live out the “one another’s” of the Bible.

By way of reminder, I mentioned in our last newsletter that in the fall we will be launching a number of studies and paths to help us draw closer to Jesus. We will offer a few new groups:
Praying Life Cohorts (groups to help us grow in prayer and see God at work)
Person of Jesus studies (seeing Jesus and how to be more like Him)
Hope groups (groups for help and encouragement with areas that ensnare us)
(If you are interested in any of these, see our Small Groups page and put your name down on the interest list.)

Also, I said too that we will be starting our new series in the Book of Titus on June 18th… but that will now start the week after. We are adding in a Q&A (ask your question HERE) that Pastor Jeremy and I will be answering questions that you may have. As I listen to you, I regularly hear that there are many questions that we wonder and struggle with. We want to help answer some of those questions by showing how His Word is practically worked out in real life.

I asked last time, and I will continue to: Would you pray for me? There is a lot of activity that really excites me for where God is taking us. Pray that I would have wisdom and clarity needed. Pray for our elders and staff and leaders as we work through various areas of our church. As I have said, I truly do mean, God is at work… and it’s good.

God willing I will see you Sunday, June 4th as we walk through the direction of our church.

Nothing On My Own,

Pastor John
