Three Ways God is at Work in Our Church!
Why don’t we pray more in our lives? I think the root is because we don’t believe it really helps.
That said, I think this is slowly changing all across our church as we grow as a praying church. We are learning to share more of our lives and ministry with the Lord and He is at work!
Let me share with you three ways God is stirring in us as a church:
One, sharing in our neediness for prayer:
I saw this firsthand when I read through all of the prayer tags from our Prayer Wall in the foyer that had been prayed over. I pulled 102 “prayed over” tags and saw a number of ways God has been at work and the openness of asking for prayer. There were requests for prayer from all ages and all across our congregation. Heartfelt needs for the Lord to move in marriages, in addictions, in broken relationships, broken health and broken sexuality. Each of these requests were prayed over by others in the church. We are praying for one another. God is at work!
Two, in our youth group:
This week Pastor Jeremy Cooper shared how the youth are praying for one another. It’s beautiful! The youth have a discord platform where they are regularly sharing requests from one another for their need for God to move and help. And other students responding that they are praying! I have heard of a number of instances where the youth are praying for one another. God is at work!
Three, we have a new prayer team:
A few weeks ago we began an official prayer team for our Sunday services. At each Sunday service there are three people who are praying from the last row in the back while the service goes on. Then, after the message, they will head to the Prayer Room where they are eager to pray with any who come for prayer. Each service people are coming for prayer. God is at work!
Time escapes me to write about how there is a move of repentance happening in homes, or in how prayer is increasing in our small groups, or how many are turning to the Lord in the midst of the suffering that is coming at them and the sin within them. God is at work!
Paul Miller in “A Praying Life” said this: “What do I lose when I have a praying life? Control. Independence. What do I gain? Friendship with God. A quiet heart.”
As we grow in drawing to the Lord, He will not disappoint. He is writing a story at so many layers that we won’t see it all until we get to heaven! Let’s keep going to Him. And as you do, you’ll see He is real and personal and at work.
I love you church. I love that God cares enough for us to be at work – in many cases that is hard work, but it is good. He will carry each of us.
