Learning to pray in a distracting world

It shows in the droopy eyes and leftover cans of energy drinks in the trash. A frazzled composure when entering a room. We go from before the crack of dawn and into the wee hours of the night. We drop in our beds exhausted, and wake up not feeling much better. But, it’s a new day, perhaps today will be different, we can get just a little more ahead, check off a few more urgent things from our lists today. So the day begins… check our Facebook and Instagram, need coffee (better have two, it’s a long day today), emails, messages to reply to on the number of messenger apps we run. Get from this to that. Do more, accomplish something significant. If you are a mom, you are a supermom when you have pizza one night for the family… but should be ashamed if it’s three nights in a row. The pressures you feel to get it all done and make a difference – or just survive in the race – is exhausting. We carry a lot of daily pressures and responsibilities.

In the midst of the daily pressures you want to be closer to Jesus – you truly do. You want to experience the life He offers, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10).” But how does that work in real-life with all you juggle?

There are no easy answers, it’s complex and hard. It certainly does need us to recognize though that we are finite, that we can’t do it all, and that we need help. We need to bring Jesus into these areas of our lives. And as we likely know, just saying that we need to make changes doesn’t change anything. We will have to make active steps for a change to the drowning pace we keep.

At the risk of this sounding like a bait and switch here, or just adding more to your already overloaded lives, we want to offer a tool that I believe can be a gift to your life -to the depths of your soul. We are hosting a seminar in a few short weeks that is intended to encourage you to grow closer to Jesus. It is to help you talk to the Lord, to help you know Him more personally, to experience Him in your world. At our church on Friday night and Saturday morning we will have A Praying Life seminar happening (November 19-20). I personally have been so deeply impacted by A Praying Life that I want to share it with you. Overall, it’s been a tool to help me be more purposeful in my prayer life and to invite the Lord into all areas of my life… which in turn has changed the pace of my life and my relationships! (I’m not trying to over-sell this – ask my family!)

Would you come? We have made this a free event so more can come. Just signup so we can have the materials you will need (and want!).

My friends, I am praying for you. I imagine you don’t even feel you have the space to do any evaluation of your life. Just come. I invite you.

I love you church and thank God for you – I love our church!

In His Grip,
Pastor John
